At the Gulf Coast Soccer, we rely on volunteer coaches for our entry level recreational programs. Each season we field over 100 recreational teams from U5-U18. Having enough volunteer coaches is essential to the success of the program. We understand how busy parents are today when both work outside the home and with other family commitments as well. In addition, some parents don’t feel comfortable coaching a sport they lack knowledge of and/or have not mastered themselves. To meet these challenges and to ease the burden on our volunteer coaches, Gulf Coast Soccer has invested in a variety of resources and tools to help our recreational coaches come up to speed quickly:

  1. We provide a first-rate coaching orientation and development tools for our recreational coaches. While having experience with soccer is appreciated, it is not required at the recreational level, particularly in the younger ages of U5-U8 where we have the largest number of teams and greatest need. Utilizing Technical Director Robert Parr’s 25-years of experience as a USSF coaching instructor, we can get you up to speed quickly, help you organize your team and practices, and start having success right away.
  2. We provide a curriculum that details what players should learn at each age and ability level. You can rest easy that you are teaching correct age appropriate basic skills for any group and that your players will improve from one season to the next.
  3. We provide free access to SoccerROM, a time saving, easy to use, online practice planner. In SoccerROM, you can follow the season long curriculum Coach Parr provides for each age group or you can begin creating your own sessions as soon as you are ready. Each session plan includes detailed instructions and graphics on how to set up and run the session. Simply print the pre-built and age appropriate session plan and head to the field to run the session.
  4. Our Age Group Coordinators and Program Directors are here to help you. The age group coordinators will help you schedule your practice fields, get your team rosters, uniforms, etc. in place. See list below.
  5. Staff mentoring. We provide access to coaching mentors. At Gulf Coast Soccer we treat all our coaches as part of our club staff. We are all on the same team to serve the players and help them learn, improve and enjoy the game! We all serve as mentors for each other. You have full access to our volunteer and professional staff should you have questions or if you would like to learn by watching training sessions for our older recreational or higher level teams.

If you are considering coaching recreational soccer, we hope these tools and resources make it easier for you to do so, have some fun yourself and enjoy some quality time with your kids as well. If you still have questions or would like to discuss further, please contact your age group coordinator or our technical director. Thanks for your consideration!
